Founder - Shri Basanti Lal Bhandari son of Shri Jadav Chand Ji Bhandari, born 30th January 1923, hailed from Lakhawali Village in Udaipur District. He started his career as a drawing teacher and then joined the Urban Improvement Trust as a draftsman after completing his diploma at J.J. School of Arts in Mumbai. |

In 1958, his first project was a residential house property called “Raj Hans” at Sardarpura in Udaipur, he sold the house in 1960 and with the proceeds from the sale of the house, he purchased the land at Shastri Circle from Shri Ram Gopal Ji Trivedi. He intended to build and operate a cinema by the name of “Pratap Talkies” on the site at Shastri Circle, but looking at the growth in religious tourism at Udaipur, he designed and planned to build “Alka Hotel” on the plot at Shastri Circle. The funds for the hotel were raised by selling the adjoining plots and shops at Shastri Circle. Alka Hotel was completed and inaugurated on 23rd January 1962 by the then Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Shri M.L. Sukhadia. His elder son, Mr. Pratap Bhandari was sent to pursue a 3 year Diploma at Hotel & Catering Institute at Dadar Mumbai.

After the success of Hotel Alka, Mr. BL Bhandari purchased the land at Fatehsagar Lake and developed a colony by the name of Alkapuri. The land was purchased by Rao Saab of Bedla in 1965. Mr. BL Bhandari dreamt of building a hotel on the shore of the lake. On return of Mr. Pratap Bhandari in 1968 from Mumbai, he joined the operations at Alka Hotel and the first expansion of the hotel was done. His younger son, Mr. Kamal Bhandari was pursuing his CA and also managing the operations and accounts at Hotel Alka. |

In 1972 the permission to construct Hotel Lakend was obtained and the hotel was completed in 1976. Mr. B L Bhandari handed over the operations of both the hotels – Alka and Lakend to his sons and continued with his passion for construction, land purchases and agriculture. |

The construction of Jaisamand Island Resort at Baba Ka Magra Island in Jaisamand Lake began in 1992 and the hotel was inaugurated on 20th March 1995 by then Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Shri Bairon Singh Ji Shekhawat. |

The Alka Group was formed by constructing five hotels at Udaipur, one hotel at Chittorgarh and various commercial and residential projects. Over the years, the Alka Group constructed various commercial buildings, residential flats and Warehouses in Udaipur City and has some of the most reputed banks, insurance companies, education institutes and MNCs as tenants. |

Hotel Lakend was given to Taj Group of Hotels in August 2007. The group is currently pursuing with development of its land holdings in Udaipur and Jaipur with a focus on Hotels and Resorts. |

The Grandsons of Shri BL Bhandari have also joined the family business and are in development of hotels and resorts to be operated by reputed national and international hotel companies, Mr. Rishit Bhandari completed his graduation in Hotel Administration from WGSHA in Manipal and then pursued with his MBA in Hospitality from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, USA. |

Mr. Nishit Bhandari, is completing his Bachelor of Business Administration at Christ College in Bangalore and is intending to pursue his MBA with a focus of Real Estate Management. |
